Foundation Year

The multidisciplinary Foundation Year Program integrates the arts and humanities, social sciences, and mathematics, providing students with a well-rounded and comprehensive educational foundation. This holistic approach to education cultivates forward-thinking global leaders who are empathetic, ethical, and culturally aware. Through this program, students will develop the critical thinking skills necessary to navigate the complex challenges of our global society. They will be encouraged to explore diverse ideas, perspectives, and cultures, fostering a deep understanding of the human experience and a profound respect for cultural diversity. This orientation subject aims to familiarize the KITian with Kirirom Institute of Technology’s mission, vision and values. 

 

It further aims to inculcate the values a KITian must possess and practice.

 

In this subject, KITians will be knowledgeable in the ethical use of the various digital requirements of being a true KITian.

This subject will provide current information and conceptual ideas necessary for global leaders to thrive in today’s fast paced and digital era.

The subject will focus on global leadership practicality, philosophy, sociology and contemporary international relations, and will examine the economic context of current affairs.

This subject is a continuation of our public speaking series, designed to further enhance students' speaking and presentation skills. By examining and analyzing a variety of TED Talks, students will understand the impact of effective public speaking on society. The subject will explore how ideas can be communicated powerfully and persuasively, and how such ideas can create change and progress. Students will also have the opportunity to create their own TED-style presentations, applying the skills and techniques they have learned to a topic of their choice. This subject will not only improve students' public speaking abilities, but also their ability to think critically, articulate ideas clearly, and influence others through their words.

This subject is designed to prepare students in comprehensive reading and academic writing. The goal of the subject is to expand your skills and build your self-confidence as academic readers, researchers, and writers. This provides a series of short written exercises that cover the fundamentals: how to read scholarly texts; how to read for and write with a focus on logical validity and coherence as an academic writer; how to plan and organize a well-structured argument or explanation; how to find, synthesize, and cite sources; and how to edit, polish, and proofread your final draft to ensure readability.

Intensive study of and practice in writing for professional settings. Focus on the types of documents necessary to make decisions and take action on the job, such as proposals, reports, instructions, policies and procedures, e-mail messages, letters, and descriptions of products and services. Practice in individual and collaborative processes involved in the creation of ethical and efficient documents.

This subject aims to explore the science, culture, and ethics of information technology, its various uses and applications, as well as its influence on culture and society.This will also help students to strike a balance between conceptual instruction and socially- and culturally-oriented discussions as it not only explains the basic concepts or key terms in IT but also features the major IT trends along with the issues and challenges these developments bring. Further, the subject is expected to develop students who are more knowledgeable and responsible young netizens able to maximize the benefits of information technology without compromising values and ethics.

These impacts are present in personal, public, and global contexts and are essential to human development. Scientific knowledge and technological advancements occur within the social, political, cultural, economic, and philosophical frameworks of society. This course aims to foster critical thinking skills in students, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives and make ethical decisions in the face of scientific and technological progress

Socio-Civic activities in KIT are initiatives that are designed to improve community life and the well-being of individuals and society as a whole. These activities often involve volunteer work, community service, and participation in organizations that promote social awareness and responsibility. These socio-civic activities are incorporated in the community engagement part of the internship.

This is an experiential learning subject designed to expose students to hands-on community work. This program builds on the foundational skills developed in Community Service I, encouraging students to apply their academic knowledge to real-world situations. Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of community organizations, honing their problem-solving skills while making a tangible difference in the community. Furthermore, the subject aims to foster a sense of social responsibility among students, encouraging them to become active and engaged citizens. The duration, specific tasks, and outcomes of the internship will vary depending on the partner organization.
